About Mary Baker Eddy

Mary Baker Eddy (1821-1910) discovered and founded Christian Science. Raised in a Puritan home, she loved and studied the Bible, a love she practiced throughout her life. Often ill while growing up, she investigated multiple healthcare systems with limited success. A turning point occurred in 1866 when she had a severe fall and was not expected survive. After three days with no improvement she asked for her Bible and found complete healing after reading two of Jesus’ healings. Throughout her life she’d been able to heal others, but as a result of this deeper, inspired, Bible study she now understood the science behind spiritual healing. Often asked how she was able to heal, she wrote Science & Health with Key to the Scriptures where she explained and documented her discovery. She named her discovery Christian Science which offers everyone, Christian Scientists and non-Christian Scientists alike, a solid basis for health and healing. She became a public speaker, teacher, and best-selling author. She founded a college for teaching Christian Science healing, an international church, The Christian Science Journal, The Christian Science Sentinel, The Herald of Christian Science, and the award-winning newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor.
